Some pictures shows large naval ships covered in a web of cables for a process called “deperming”. Is this procedure removing all the magnetism from the ship? |

Deperming of an object or ship removes parts of the permanent magnetization that is acquired mainly during the building of the ship. Deperming helps a bit on the way to a low magnetic signature but a degaussing system is still required in order to reach the levels that are mandatory for a naval ship.
