Some pictures shows large naval ships covered in a web of cables for a process called “deperming”. Is this procedure removing all the magnetism from the ship?

Deperming of an object or ship removes parts of the permanent magnetization that is acquired mainly during the building of the ship. Deperming helps a bit on the way to a low magnetic signature but a degaussing system is still required in order to reach the levels that are mandatory for a naval ship.
